    {}[]{}[]{}[]{}[]{}[]{}[]{}

    An ex-colleague asked me about what it is like to work in the corporate world, having been straight out of school, she joined Prudential. While I ventured into the unknown, she stayed on in the financial advisory industry. Well, my reply to her was that it is definitely not as simple as things in the agency. Politics are abound and bosses are tougher to handle. I have never been one for the orthodox, so it would be really difficult for most bosses to take a keen liking in me. That said, I usually give full commitment when others falter. But then again, rules? I like bending them. Rules are like the banks of an icy lake, you like to skirt around the lake, sometimes even going onto the ice itself, but once you deviate from the banks, remember that the ice can break right under you.

    So what does bending rules help for me? Nothing much, just that some rules are way too rigid and pointless to follow. Neither am I anti-establishment or trouble-maker, just hate to be bound by rules. I am a free-spirit who lives by his own perspectives and objectives. Perhaps I should continue to pursue my interest in fashion rather than continue in the corporate world. Then again, I love the fat pay cheque.

    The corporate world is like a restaurant that one is going to for the first time, never hearing about it before, nor having a slight knowledge of the cuisine. It dishes out different styles, some spicy, some sour, some just plain bland stuff. It may fit some but not all can take the favours. Some the ones who are disheartened by the dishes just leave after paying (serving notice), vowing never to come back again. But as hunger sets in, the people who leaves are back again, to savour perhaps a different set of cuisine.

    One thing I have learnt is TRUST. Two power-hungry individuals although initially were nice to me, ended up treating me like a dog which has soiled their Persian carpets. I think sometimes the issue of pride comes into play. I do not challenge the authority, just the status quo. Do not give me the shit about how I have not performed when you know damn well how good I am and how much effort I have put in. It does not help when you are covering the asses of those you are trying to groom and those who will obey you. Leaving you was not such a big decision to make, and I left with the dignity to tie up all the loose ends, but why still make things difficult for me then? Well, guess the corporate world is like crime investigation- never let the emotional rule over the proof.

    So trust no-one who laughs at every single fucking thing that is said; even when making a remark of criticism. That laughter could just hide a dagger behind to kill one.
